Caribbean Scuba Diving & Caribbean Snorkeling in Isla Margarita

Isla Margarita offers some excellent Caribbean scuba diving and Caribbean snorkeling.There are some really good snorkeling and scuba diving on and around Isla de Margarita. But the island has many dive places and the variations are huge. The conditions immediately around the island can be a little too unpolished and murky.

The two most popular snorkeling and dive places close to Margarita are Los Frailes and Isla Cubagua. A snorkel trip cost an average between $40 and $60 per person for a full day with lunch. The scuba tours cost between $50 and $80 for a whole day trip.

Los Frailes

Los Frailes is a group of small rock islands which is about 12km northeast of the coast of Isla de Margarita. This is ranked as the absolutely best diving place around the island.

The maximum depths are about 25m and the viewing range from about 10-30m. A disadvantage is that the water is fairly cold for the Caribbean, about 21-24 degrees. This makes that wetsuits are recommendable. However, you will get a huge compensation beneath the water surface.

The diving is excellent which offers smaller platforms, canyons or smaller caves. You can imagine finding a lot of fishes of all kind of species because this place is also the place for fishing.

Isla Cubagua

Isla Cubagua is one of the sister’s islands of Isla de Margarita. At Isla Cubagua you can dive of the wreck of a sunken ferry, with has intact cars still aboard. This ferry went down in the early 70th because of a big fire on board.

Especially the steering room is very nice to take some underwater pictures. This place is truly recommended if you would like some adventure. Dive carefully because some things onboard the ferry could be quite sharp and you may get cutted.
